about
“I Thought I Saw You Today” is about when I was waiting at a stoplight, a pickup truck pulled up beside me, and the driver looked just like my older brother, who had died 4 years earlier in a motorcycle accident. Like most moments in my life, meaningful things hit me at different times. It’s usually the smallest of things that trigger the thoughts that flood my mind when I least expect it. This was one of those times.
When we were young, my brother and I would ride motorcycles, play sports, and generally do the things that brothers do. He taught me how to build things and fix things. Somehow he always knew how to fix things.
The song speaks about specific details about his life, (Sandy River, Candlestick pines), but also to the bigger picture of the little things that remind you of someone who has passed. He was only 53 at the time of his passing. The song will be released on his birthday, June 19th.
lyrics
I thought I saw you today, you were driving in a truck when you pulled up beside my lane
I thought I saw you today, when I realized that I never really dealt with the pain
I thought I saw you today, when I looked into the mirror and I caught you looking back my way (but it was only me)
I thought I saw you today, you were checking in again to see if I was gonna be ok (I know I’m supposed to be)
And I still can’t believe that you’re gone
I’m just trying every day to hold on
You know it’s been such a long climb
They say that it only takes time
I thought I heard you today, in the whisper of the wind as it drifted across the way
I thought I heard you today, in the tops of the pines as the Candlesticks started to sway
I thought I heard you today, in the roar of the pipes of some bikes that were out on the street (with their engines screaming)
I thought I heard you today, as your words in my head swirl around but they’re never complete (I feel like I’m dreaming)
And I still can’t believe that you’re gone
I’m just trying every day to hold on
You know it’s been such a long climb
They say that it only takes time
I thought I felt you today, in the warmth of the sun as it touched upon my face
I thought I felt you today, overcome by the past that the years have tried to erase
I thought I felt you today, an embrace of a friend who didn’t try to pull away (with the extra meaning)
I thought I felt you today, with a hand in my hand going down to the Sandy River way (and my voice is keening)
And I still can’t believe that you’re gone
I’m just trying every day to hold on
You know it’s been such a long climb
They say that it only takes time
I thought I saw you tonight, you were dancing in the mist of the memories of my mind
Audio has been a constant in my life. From listening to my favorite bands as a kid to recording my own music to this day,
music has been there for me. In 2012, I had an opportunity to branch out from music background to get involved with the sound of the film world. Since then, I have divided my time between the two domains....more
